THE CAMEL SOUKS & RACE TRACK
On our last day in Dubai, the 30th of April, Norm and Sue took us to the camel souks. They are lots of shops around one big outdoor area. They weren’t like the big flash shops in the malls. They were ordinary little shops that camel farmers go to, to buy things for their camels. Before we went to the camel souks, Norm and Sue took us to where the camels raced. We played around in the grand stands. There was lots of broken glass and plastic. We weren’t sure if it was just the weather or whether it was vandals. There were lots of dead rhino beetles on the ground. There were also a few live ones but they were all turned over. I was turning all of the live ones over onto their legs.
After the grand stands we went to the camel souks. We bought some flat bread (almost like a burrito). It was cooked in a traditional Arabic way in an Arabic oven. It was very yummy. Then we had a look for a shop that Sue liked the last time she went to the souks. I found it. Mum had a look at some camel blankets. She wanted to buy one because they make good table cloths. After dad had done lots of bartering she ended up buying one for herself and one as a present for someone. Then we got back in the car and drove around to the Jumeirah Beach Residences.
JUMEIRAH BEACH RESIDENCES
After we had been to the camel souks we went to Jumeirah Beach Residences. We weren’t there very long because we mostly just had a quick look around at a couple of stores. Although we did get a slushy each. The slushy I got was the best slushy that I have ever had. Tyler got a strawberry slushy, Mum Dad and I all had a lemon and mint. It was a very hot day so it was nice sitting down and having our cold slushies.
Then, after we had finished our slushies, we went and tried to find a toilet. Tyler was able to go but when Mum, Sue and I walked into the toilet, the cleaner that was in there said that it was a men’s only toilet. He then told us that the women’s toilet was just around the corner. Luckily we found the toilet in time.
I really liked the Camel Souks and the Jumeirah Beach Residences. Especially the slushy!
